The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall’s trip to the Doctor Who set has been a resounding success, with the extremely privileged couple given the chance to travel through time and space.

Charles and Camilla were fortunate enough to meet Nick Briggs, be harrassed by some Daleks and were also shown around the TARDIS set by a shorn Matt Smith and a very pretty Jenna-Louise Coleman. Chuckles ensued as the duchess was invited to pull the TARDIS lever, resulting in some lights, sound and artron magic!

What is intriguing about the visit, however, is the number of things we can glean from the various chats. For instance, in the video above you can hear Jenna explaining to the Prince of Wales:

“…we finished about two months ago. We had three different Doctors in here and we shot on 3D as well… yeah, three different Doctors. John Hurt, and David Tennant was back and Matt. Three different Doctors playing against each other”.

All of that jolly Dalek nonsense and Steven Moffat offering Charles a role (“I haven’t thought about how I could weave a meeting between the Doctor and the royal family. But Prince Charles’s attempt at being a Dalek was great. There would be a part in the show for him if he wanted it.”) aside, however, there is a darker side to this visit. It seems that The Telegraph has let on how John Hurt fits in…

John Hurt’s Doctor
It seems that costume designer Howard Burden (who should know, given that it was his brief to dress John Hurt’s character) revealed the truth behind the so-called “dark Doctor” as he showed the royal couple a selection of costumes from the show.
“There was a gap between Paul McGann playing the Doctor and Christopher Eccleston, when we didn’t see a regeneration, and John Hurt will fit into that gap. He is a past Doctor, not a future Doctor.”

So, let the dismissals and claims of “what would he know?!” begin!
